Tempted? Welcome to Christianity

September 24, 2025

Summary

Something I wish Christianity would address more often is the normal battle with sin. Or, to put it another way: temptation. Temptation is a normal experience. That word "normal" is the key. We tend to think that as we grow in Christ, temptation decreases. But that is not what Paul says about our experience. It’s important to understand that you will not only struggle with sin, meaning you’re fighting it, but the temptation to sin may actually increase as you mature in the faith. Paul gives us some very important ways to think about temptation and how to endure it. This is a really important conversation. If you're struggling and feel the weight of temptation beating you down, this episode is for you.

Topics

  • Temptation as a normal Christian experience
  • Why maturity may increase the fight rather than erase it
  • What Paul says about struggling with sin in the faith

Something that I wish Christianity would speak more of is the normal battle with sin, or I would put it this way: temptation.

00:00:09

Temptation is a normal experience.

00:00:11

That word normal, that's the key.

00:00:13

We think that as you grow in Christ, temptation gets less.

00:00:16

And that is not what Paul says about our experience.

00:00:19

It's a very important conversation to understand that you will not only struggle with sin, meaning that you're not giving into it, but the temptation of sin will probably increase throughout your life.

00:00:30

And Paul tells us some very important ways to think about it and how to endure it.

00:00:35

Really important conversation today.

00:00:36

If you're struggling, you feel the weight of temptation just beating you down, this episode's for you.

00:00:41

Hey guys, this is Justin.

00:00:44

Maybe you know that you are forgiven because of Jesus Christ, but you're wondering: what does Jesus have to do with my Christian life?

00:00:53

How is he involved in my sanctification, even?

00:00:56

Or is he concerned at all with the ways that I struggle and the way that my life goes up and down?

00:01:01

Is there any comfort for me in Jesus when it comes to all of that?

00:01:05

Well, I've written a book called More Than Forgiven: How Being in Christ Changes Everything that deals with this topic from Romans chapter 6.
