We've all had these spiritual highs where we feel like we couldn't be any closer to God.
We're almost walking on air.
That's the experience.
And then a trial hits, we fail, and we find ourselves in a dark place.
How did I get here?
I was just living the most spiritual experience I've ever had.
And now I feel ashamed.
I feel distant.
I feel dark.
How do I get back there?
And we keep longing for those days because we are convinced the spiritual high experiences is what truly will keep us close to God and keep our faith alive.
Well, we're going to look at several stories from the Old Testament, and then we're going to turn to Peter, Paul, and James, who are going to tell us spiritual experiences are great, but they don't produce steadfastness and they
don't produce joy, not lasting joy.
And they don't actually prepare us to be who we need to be.
Spiritual hangovers is a real thing.
We really love it when we can feel close to God.
But when trials come and we fail, then what?
Then what do we do?
We're going to look to that today.
