Welcome to Theocast, encouraging weary pilgrims to rest in Christ, conversations about the Christian life from a reformed perspective.
Our hosts today are John Moffat, pastor of Grace Reformed Church in Spring Hill, Tennessee, Jimmy Bueller, pastor of Christ Community Church in Wilmer, Minnesota, and myself, Justin Perdue, pastor of Covenant Baptist Church in Asheville, North Carolina.
Today's episode is something very special.
It is actually the first of five sessions that we recorded on covenant theology.
This we want to make available to you, the listener, for free.
John is going to talk to you a little bit more about how you can access all five sessions, but we wanted to begin today by offering session one, which is an overview session where we talk about covenant theology
and some of the high-level truths that characterize it.
We talk a little bit about history and even typology and all of those sorts of fun things from our perspective here at Theocast, which is a 1689 federalist understanding of covenant theology.
And you may be thinking, my goodness, brother, I don't know what any of this stuff means that you are talking about, which means that hopefully this recording that you will be listening to here in just a few moments
will be helpful to you.
So, John, why don't you give the people some information about maybe the series in general that we recorded, five parts and all that fun stuff, and also more information about how they can access all the content.
Yep, absolutely.
Well, one of the things that we say in the podcast, and I'll mention it now, is that covenant theology really is kind of what undergirds a lot of what we hold to here at Theocast.
So, if you've been loving this message of rest, of learning to find the glory of Christ and then rest in that, and really, what it means to look outside of yourself.
This comes from a reformed perspective of the Bible, which we would say the Bible is structured in a redemptive historic understanding.
And what drives that story of redemption is the covenant, the covenant of grace, and the covenant of works.
So, we're going to explain this.
One of the reasons we got together and we spent quite a bit of money to try and get all of us together to gather for three days so that we could put together the simplest introduction to covenant theology
that we could think of.
We read a lot of books, we had lots of conversations.
